Abstract:
The Car License Plate Detection and Recognition System (CLPDRS) is becoming a significant area of research due to its variety of applications such as parking, access control, tolling, border control, traffic control and crime prevention, and the payment of parking fees. The paper proposes a novel method consisting of four stages where License Plate Detection (LPD) is followed by Character Recognition. Vertical Edge Detection Algorithm (VEDA) is used for license plate detection and makes the proposed method faster and easier. After locating the license plate (LP), license plate recognition is accomplished with the aid of Character Segmentation and Character Recognition using Template matching.
