Abstract:
This paper presents the capability of Rayleigh’s dimensional analysis approach to predict the strength of flexible pavement. As per general practice flexible pavement is design based on traffic intensity, type of road, geometric design factors, and materials ,grades of bitumen, aggregate etc.in lab and accordingly asphalt macadam or concrete is prepared in asphalt or concrete plant and material is directly supplied at the work site. At work site sample is taken and send in laboratory for testing and lying of material is done without any results in hand. For obtaining the result it will take moderate time. In few cases, if results are failed after competition of work of flexible pavement, then further remedial measures, decisions needs to be taken. Failures results in wastage of time and money. To avoid this types of failures if we can calculate the strength of pavement material brought on site before laying by knowing the few available parameters by adopting Dimensional Analysis based on experimental analysis we predict the strength and decision can be taken accordingly.
