Abstract:
This paper studies the effect of foundation stiffness on the natural frequency of a nozzle actuation system test rig used for dynamic characterization of control actuators used in satellite launch vehicles. The work was motivated by the observation that natural frequency obtained in tap test during test rig installation is much below initial predictions based on finite element analysis (FEA). The difference was attributed to a degraded foundation. In the current work, different methodologies based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are adopted to represent the effect of foundation stiffness on the natural frequency and the results are compared with tap test results. It is found that FEA results have good match under the assumptions of degraded foundation.
